STOP PRESS///STOP PRESS///STOP PRESS///
The Suspects headline one of Coventry's most prestigious Charity Events
The Fade To Grey Festival
6th October 2007

The following contains excerpts from the official press release by our good friend and organiser, Marianne Caine.

Proving that the kids are still alright Coventry’s celebration for the over 50’s in October intends to culminate in a response to Jimi Hendrix's “Are You Experienced” with a concert on Saturday 6th October at the Albany Club in Earlsdon.  The concert entitled Fade to Grey is in an advanced stage of planning and will feature up to 16 bands on three stages bringing together all ages within the community through music

In the lounge there will be mainly acoustic sets free for all club members and visitors.  This will continue the club's tradition of providing top class entertainment with a range of styles not normally associated with the Social Club scene.  In the concert room some of Coventry’s top bands will be performing.  The most excellent confirmed line up so far includes;

3
The Suspects

4
Two Giraffes

1
Airbag

2
Lament

Dave Freeman
Peter Ballantyne & Band
Linda Riatt
The Pigeons

and other acts are still to confirm.  Tickets for the concert cost £8.00 and all the bands are playing for free with the proceeds going to support the Age Concern activities at the Gilbert Richard Centre in Broadway, Earlsdon.  Some of the bands will have CD’s for sale and other stalls and food will be available.

The event has been made possible through the generous support of the Albany Club and Barclays bank Plc who are match funding the event as part of their community Investment programme.  Many local traders have donated prizes for a super raffle.  So let the good times roll and show them we are not ready to “Fade Away”

In the Club's car park there will be a 1.5k marquee with a beer tent and small acoustic stage inside. There will be two food stalls to keep us all going, stalls promoting Age Concern and Help the Aged and some craft stalls. All the money raised will be going to Age Concern's activites at the Gilbert Richards Centre and Barclays Bank have donated £1000 in line with their Community Investment Programme. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes.

On the 3rd October the Deputy Lord Mayor and Jim Cunningham MP will be visiting the Gilbert Richards Centre and Andy Matchett (Deputy Mayor) and some other councillors will be attending the concert.

The breaking news is that the media in all its glorious forms including the BBC will be covering the event.

Taylor John's House 1 April 2007

Yes, yes, it was the first of April, but that fact had eluded me until after lunchtime so this year I wasn't playing that card. The band actually did play support to the very excellent Black Diamond Heavies at Taylor John's House last night. Punters were thin on the ground it being Sunday night and all so the atmosphere wasn't as electrically charged as it might have been, but the Heavies soundchecked after us and gave us a taste of the fine things to come. Nice to see a Fender Rhodes on stage for a change. They used our kit too - Quite soon this kit will be more famous than we are....

The Suspects kicked off at 9.00pm and charged through the normal 45 minute set in 30 minutes. We went down well with the crowd, most of whom haven't seen us before. Richard, the owner of Taylor John's said he was mightily impressed, so we're probably going to make more appearances there in future. This venue is pretty unique for Coventry and could use more of your support - check it out, you may be pleasantly surprised!

The Black Diamond Heavies hail from the Southern States of America, but currently live as "vagrants/citizens of the world." No guitars in sight - all done live on keys and drums - and it came across as a "full" sound just as it was. The music was urgent, raw, and full of ass-shaking soul. The show was both "Pentecostal" and "Demon-Possessed". Most of the material was original, although covers were thrown in by John Lee Hooker, T-Model Ford, Muddy Waters, Ray Charles and Tom Waits. Mick played harp with them on a couple of tracks.

They were also joined by Paul Curreri on guitar. Great show, full of energy, not least from the performers. We had a natter with Heavies John and Van after the show. They're currently on an exhaustive tour and were speeding off to digs near their next date at The Sumo in Leicester later that night. They're back on our side of the pond in October this year and we hope to have another session with them then. We recommend you check them out at a venue near you. Thanks to Adrian Seeley for some of the images and the vid. General Lee 02/04/2007
